Elevate her: A Black Girl Summit is a one-day gathering taking place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The summit is designed to focus on addressing the transitions to high school and post-secondary education, educational pathways, and increase the self-determination of Black girls and their guardians/supports in the Toronto area. Bringing together artists, activists, educators, policymakers, students and Black girl leaders themselves. Elevate her: A Black Girl Summit seeks to address the disadvantages that Black girls face, provide space for their voice and engagement opportunities for their Circle of Care while creating the political will to publicly empower and acknowledge their achievements, contributions, and leadership.
Elevate her: A Black Girl Summit is rooted in Black Feminist Thought and Critical Race Theory. Moreover, it is a parallel conference, offering a series of workshops for the students, particularly girls in the her L.I.F.E. program, and a complimentary series of workshops for their Circles of Care.
